My latest solar boat, successor to the VortX 2, the SOLAR TSUNAMI. No need for text overlays in this one, it’s amazing. (WIDTH: 11 in LENGTH: 30 in) The Tsunami is superior to the VortX in that it is faster, stronger, and more maneuverable. Paddle wheels allow it to precisely navigate over moss and underwater vegetation, It can even break through thin ice. An internal rechargeable battery pack gives it an extra boost when taking off. Also inside is a rapidly spinning gyroscope to help it handle waves. The hull is made of Styrofoam covered in thick layers of paint. It uses the same control chip as the VortX and is also made out of found and recycled electronics and materials. It can throw water over 10 feet, so the deck is sealed water tight. The solar panels are also waterproof. The only issue is water pooling on the bow, it tends to shift back and forth and make it lean slightly. This causes one paddle wheel to dig in a little more than the other. I cut drainage holes shortly after making the vid, so its not a big problem now.
1/32 vosper hull by Kingston and a gift from Andy MA. After heavy modifications to waterjet powered and 12 subC 2400 cells and a 700 bearing motor. ( Rear end motor bushing also modifified to ball bearing. and a Kmt -waterjet. Location is Victoria Park Hong Kong. 10.6.2008.
The VortX 2 Solar Powered RC boat. (not a commercial) Months of work resulted in a pretty cool solar powered boat. It is made from scratch out of household materials. Length- 44″ Width- 18″ Height- 9″ Weight- 6lbs Min water- 1″ Power- 6.5v 1-1.8 A (time of year) {each fan uses more than “400mA”, more like 600} It is a vast improvement from previous boats (see beginning pictures) (Narration- AT&T Natural Voices Text-To-Speech) Coming soon… The “Solar Tsunami”…
More and more people are choosing gas powered RC cars and trucks over battery powered ones, for many obvious reasons. One of those reasons, is their realistic look. But, if you’re new to this, you can find that the various models can cause some confusion in some people.
If you already own one that is battery-operated, you’ll notice that it lacks in power. But, there are kits available that can help you to convert it to gas. Of course, at nitromethane-based fuel is a requirement. When you do, convert them, you will notice that they are providing a higher performance, and give off a more realistic look.
www.aroundtuitvideos.com This is the maiden voyage of the vortex 46 nitro powered RC air boat. Thanks go out to John for selling it to me, to horizon hobby for making one great boat, and most of all Fred for letting me play in his pond.
