Radio controlled devices have gained popularity as hobby items apart from being used for various other purposes. Building, modifying and driving radio controlled vehicles is a favorite pastime of radio control enthusiasts. The sport involves displaying the skills of the person in handling the device, efficiently.
Remote or radio controlled devices are controlled from a remote distance. Jagdish Chandra Bose was perhaps the first to demonstrate remote controlled activity when he set alight gun powder to strike a gong using electromagnetic radiation, from a distance. Tesla was the first to show the use of a transmitter and receiver to remotely control a ship. He showed how mechanical gadgets could be controlled using the wireless principle in the year 1898. He also began the construction of a wireless tower that remained incomplete due to lack of finance. Tesla can be said to have created the basis for the design of radio controlled devices which are in use today. The American inventor Armstrong said, “The world will long have to wait for a mind equal to Tesla’s, a mind of such creative possibilities and such wealth of imagination.”

Radio controlled toys and projects have a huge following among hobbyists all across the globe. The concept is certainly a fun one – a miniature model of some real-life vehicle, fully functional and ready to get around. There are many different types of radio controlled hobbies that can be enjoyed. All it takes is basic knowledge of the radio equipment and the motors, and you can enjoy all of them in some way or another.
The most basic (and arguably the most fun) type of radio controlled hobby is the remote control car. Small model cars can be rigged in a way that will allow you to accelerate, steer, and brake them at will. There are numerous ways that you can accomplish this. The first is to just buy a remote controlled car and some good batteries. However, if you are interested in the technical aspect of it then this may seem uninteresting. Another option is to build a model or a kit from scratch, putting together all of the components of the car and installing the radio control system. Still another option is to take a pre-existing toy, and mount all of the radio components inside.

Ships and boats, yachts and submarines have long been the subject of fantasies nursed by the young and the old. The waters of the seas and oceans hold many secrets which to the mind of the hobbyist were shared by the sea vessels that sailed on them. One yearns to be part of the mystery and adventure that surrounds sailing. A very select few can afford to own sea faring yachts and boats. The rest of us live our dreams by owning ship or boat models that are fashioned after the real ships and boats.
Made to scale boats can be made to sail with the help of radio control equipment with which they are fitted. Such radio controlled boats can be operated remotely with the help of a multi channel radio transmitter. The radio transmitter is in the hands of the operator while there is a corresponding receiver on the boat. Signals are sent to the radio receiver on the boat by changing the position of the two joy sticks on the transmitter. The receiver on the boat is connected to two battery operated electric motors. Signals received from the radio transmitter which is handled by the operator are translated into instructions to run the motors as per directions.
With a host of websites and companies now offering ship and boat models, they are able to offer exciting deals backed by comparative rate studies.
Models can be handcrafted and made of wood or acrylic or a little of both. But fact remains that astute care is taken to deliver a finished and aesthetically produced boat model since it can be expected that one who would want to own a boat model for the love of owning a near original piece would settle for nothing less than a near perfect look alike. Radio controlled boats however have to be treated with more care since one cannot have water entering the motors on the boat.
Although boats were considered a necessity for transportation until several years ago, today they are more a form of recreation and an indulgence towards a hobby. Granted that actually sailing on a boat is an experience an adventurous person would love above anything else, the technically oriented opt for the radio controlled variety of boat models to add to their collection of antique water-worthy artifacts.

For some reason, being able to control a miniature boat as it skims over the water of a local lake is something that many people find very appealing. It doesn’t matter whether you are a kid or an adult; remote controlled boats are universally fun. On top of that, nothing is more fun than undergoing a huge and daunting project, and eventually seeing the results come through. Therefore you should consider building a remote controlled boat on your own, out of materials that you can buy from any local craft or hobby store. If you are here, you have likely already considered this prospect. It is more than possible, and probably easier than you would think.
Since you have taken the more interesting route and decided to build your remote controlled boat rather than buy one pre-made, you will have quite a few more challenges facing you that you wouldn’t have run into otherwise. However, all of the hard work that you put into your remote controlled boat will pay off in the end, and you will feel like you have really accomplished something when you take it out to a lake for a day and it is able to successfully navigate the treacherous waters. You will probably be frustrated along the way as your boat falls apart, or even sinks into the water never to be seen again. However, if you persevere you will be glad that you did.
